WORKSHOPS I WILL BE TEACHING WITH THE ROYAL WATERCOLOUR SOCIETY
WORKSHOP: Colour & Transparency: Landscape Painting in Watercolour
15 September 2025
In this workshop you will be given a comprehensive introduction to creating watercolour landscape paintings. You will learn about how different artists use colour and transparency to create various styles of landscape painting and will be shown how to hone these techniques to create your own watercolour paintings.
You will learn how to use artist references, apply different washes using a broad tonal range, understand some of the qualities of watercolour through various techniques including transparency and light effects, and develop an understanding of composition in both abstract and figurative forms. There will be emphasis on experimentation, trial and error and creative discovery throughout the day.
This course is suitable for all levels of ability including beginners and those willing to have a go.
This workshop will take place at RWS Gallery on Whitcomb Street, just off Trafalgar Square.

ENGLISH ART CLUB AT THE V&A LONDON
I will be teaching the following four workshops with the New English Art Club starting on 13 September 2025.
SKETCHING ADVENTURES IN THE VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM WORKSHOP SERIES OVERVIEW
These four 1-day workshops exploring the museum's rich history and collections will equip you with a variety of techniques and skills to enhance and develop your drawing abilities. You will learn how to draw from direct observation, boosting your confidence and nurturing your creativity. Although each workshop is designed as a stand-alone experience, focusing on specific elements and areas within the museum's collections, it is highly recommended to participate in multiple workshops. Drawing is a gradual process and enrolling in more or all of these workshops will significantly enhance your drawing abilities, appreciation, and understanding of observational drawing.
WHO ARE THESE WORKSHOPS FOR?
This course is open to anyone interested in learning observational drawing in a museum environment. No prior experience in observational drawing is required, as the course caters to all skill levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners.
WHAT YOU WILL BE TAUGHT AND HOW YOU WILL LEARN
This course will introduce you to various observational drawing techniques, helping you improve your skills and boost your confidence. You'll work in a supportive environment, drawing on location in one of the world's greatest museums, the V&A.
In these workshops, you will explore and be guided through a variety of drawing methods, styles, and techniques. You will learn how to draw, capture and record a diverse range of objects and architecture through direct observation. Each workshop will teach you how to observe and draw from direct observation, including understanding perspective, spatial awareness, recording patterns and details, applying shading, and using pen work, whilst learning about the history of the V&A museums collections and architecture.
Each workshop is carefully designed with engaging, enjoyable activities to accommodate all skill levels. You will receive instruction through detailed step-by-step processes, personalised one-on-one tuition, and structured practical exercises designed to foster individual creativity and in-depth study. Each workshop will be supported by some electronic learning resources which you will be able to access online at the end of each workshop.

These courses provide students with the opportunity to learn and develop their skills in drawing and watercolour painting. The Working Men's College, founded in 1854, is among the earliest adult education institutions established in the United Kingdom and is Europe's oldest center for adult education. The college has a rich history, with notable figures such as John Ruskin and William Morris having taught there.

Extend Your Drawing Skills-Improvers

This course will give you a range of techniques and skills to extend your drawing skills. You will be shown a range of techniques to enable you to develop your own ideas and flourish as a creative person. Sessions are focused on drawing activities that are varied and interesting and designed to stretch, challenge and build your confidence in drawing. There will also be the opportunity to draw in one of central London?s museums most terms.
