Jordan, Syria, Middle East and Mesopotamia

In 2003 I travelled to Jordan, tracing parts of the historic Spice Trails through the desert landscapes of Wadi Rum. and the famous archeological sites of Petra and Jerash where I produced a series of sketches and paintings. My travels also then included visiting the ancient crusader castle of Kerak, Mount Nebo, Madaba, and the countries capital city, Amman.

In addition to my explorations in Jordan, I was fortunate to visit Syria in 2008 prior to the onset of it's  devastating civil war. In May 2008, I sketched and painted  the architecture, heritage, and landscapes of the country, with a particular focus on the ancient, ruined cities of Bosra and Palmyra.  I also sketched the crusader castles of Krak des Chevaliers and Saladin Castle, as well as several other sites throughout Syria.

In addition to my Jordanian and Syrian works I  have also looked at the wider  regions of the Middle East through it's ancient History creating imaginative works that interpret and record my own view of ancient  Mesopotamia and Assyria particularly through the reimagining of the archeological sites and cities of Persepolis and Babylon.

This page showcases some of my Jordanian Syrian and Mesopotamia inspired works.
