Welcome to Neil Pittaway's Studio.

Alongside my work as a painter, draughtsman and printmaker, I teach drawing and watercolour to adults at a range of levels, from those discovering the medium for the first time to more experienced artists looking to develop their skills and individual approach.

My teaching grows directly from my own practice. Drawing from observation, sketchbooks, landscape, architecture, colour, composition and the creative possibilities of watercolour are all central to the courses I teach.

This page contains details of my current and forthcoming courses, workshops and teaching events.

MY APPROACH TO

I believe that learning to draw and paint is not simply about learning a set of techniques.

Technical skills are important, but they should ultimately help you look more closely, experiment more freely and develop your own visual language.

My own practice moves between drawing, watercolour, painting and printmaking, and much of my work begins with direct observation and sketchbook studies.

I bring this experience into my teaching through demonstrations, practical exercises and individual guidance, encouraging students to experiment while developing a stronger understanding of:

Drawing · Observation · Colour · Light · Composition · Perspective · Mark-making · Personal expression

Whether you are beginning your journey with watercolour or looking to take your existing work further, my aim is to create a relaxed environment in which you can experiment, learn and develop your own approach.
