A city drawn through time
London has been one of the great recurring subjects of my work.
I am drawn to the way the city brings together centuries of architecture, changing streets, familiar landmarks and everyday life. A medieval church can stand beside a Victorian railway bridge; Georgian terraces meet modern buildings; quiet courtyards and busy streets reveal different layers of the same city.
Through painting, drawing and printmaking, I explore these contrasts and the character of the places themselves. My London works often begin with direct observation, working in sketchbooks and making drawings on location before developing ideas further in the studio.
Architecture gives me a way of recording not only what a place looks like, but something of its atmosphere, history and human presence. Buildings become landmarks within a larger visual story — of London, and other places that are constantly changing and developing .
This gallery brings together paintings, drawings and prints inspired by London architecture and the streets, buildings and places that have caught my attention over the years.
