Everest · Annapurna · Langtang

Nepal and the Himalayas have become an important part of my artistic journey over many years.

My travels through the Everest, Annapurna and Langtang regions have given me the opportunity to work directly from the landscape, recording what I see through drawing, painting and sketchbooks. The mountains, villages, monasteries, paths and architecture have provided an extraordinary range of subjects, but it is also the experience of being there that has stayed with me.

I have always been interested in places and the visual histories they contain. In the Himalayas this is particularly powerful. The landscape, architecture and daily life are closely connected, with ancient traditions, mountain communities and an immense natural environment existing alongside one another.

My sketchbooks are an important part of this work. I draw and paint while travelling, recording the changing light, the shapes of the mountains, buildings, people and details of everyday life. These observations often become the starting point for larger paintings, drawings and prints developed later in the studio.

This archive brings together work from my journeys through Everest, Annapurna and Langtang, tracing my continuing exploration of the Nepal Himalayas through drawing, painting and printmaking.

For me, these works are not simply records of mountains or places visited. They are memories of journeys, encounters and observations — an attempt to capture something of the character, atmosphere and visual history of the Himalayas.

The journey continues from the sketchbook to the studio, and from memory back into the landscape.
