Sketchbook - Morocco . Atlas Mountains . Marrakech . Mount Toubkal
My sketchbooks are a record of the places I have travelled, the landscapes I have walked through and the people and architecture I have encountered along the way. I draw directly from life, often in the middle of a journey, capturing quick impressions and details that later become part of my paintings, drawings and prints.
In August 2024, I trekked through the valleys and high peaks of Morocco’s Atlas Mountains, reaching the summit of Mount Toubkal at 4,167 metres, the highest mountain in North Africa. The journey also took me through Marrakesh, both on the way there and on my return.
This page brings together a selection of sketches from that journey, alongside drawings from my 2013 trek to Annapurna Base Camp in the Nepal Himalayas — two very different landscapes, but both important parts of my continuing journey as an artist.
